Music
Music and dance are important for every Bedouin celebration and wedding. But the traditional Music is also part of every day life. Many Bedouin throughout history have been - and today still are - gifted poets. Their lyrics, accompanied by a rababah or a flute make the typical Bedouin music.
The rababah is made of a sound box covered in goatskin. It has a singel string of horse hair and is plaied with a bow. The rababah is held upright while playing, like a small cello.
In any Bedouin song, there is a strong connection between the content of the lyrics and the music underlining this story. Typical topics are the universal ones found in songs all over the world: The joy when meeting a dear friend and the hurt when parting again, love and death.
But of course embeded in the context of Bedouin life, like fetching water drom a well or watching over the grazing goats
You can find singing Bedouin any time, without any other reason than the fun of it. But the atmosphere of a campfire under the stars just adds perfectly to the experience, this is the best time to relax and enjoy the magic of Bedouin music!
